Professor Thomas Douglas has been appointed Interim Director of the Uehiro Oxford Institute from 1 October 2026, following Professor Roger Crisp’s completion of his tenure. Roger has been instrumental in overseeing the establishment and initial development of the Institute, enabled by the generous support of the Uehiro Foundation on Ethics and Education.
The Uehiro Oxford Institute joins divisional colleagues in warmly thanking Roger for his leadership over the last three years, navigating the transition from Oxford Uehiro Centre for Practical Ethics to Uehiro Oxford Institute and providing supportive and collaborative leadership of the Institute through its inception. Roger’s warmth and collegiality has made its mark on the many visitors, students and staff who have already experienced the Institute, and we are delighted that he will continue on in his role as Senior Research Fellow and Professor of Moral Philosophy.
Tom will take up his new post in time for the start of the academic year. His appointment will provide continuity for the Institute while the Division takes forward the process to appoint a substantive Director, which is now under way. We wish him the very best in leading this next stage of the Institute’s development.
