This seminar offers University of Oxford graduate students from all departments whose work has an applied ethics dimension the opportunity to join a practical and medical ethics seminar group led by researchers from the Uehiro Oxford Institute.
Each seminar focuses on a student work in progress, which is circulated to participants in advance. The author will give a brief introduction and summary of their paper before opening the discussion to the group for constructive comments, questions, and feedback.
The seminars provide a supportive and interdisciplinary environment in which graduate students can develop their work, exchange ideas, and engage with others working on topics related to practical and medical ethics.
Guidance for student presenters:
Draft papers or thesis chapters in early and late stages of development are welcome. If you are sharing a chapter from a longer thesis, you may want to include a brief summary of the arguments that come before, or the arguments you want to subsequently make, which fall outside of the work you are sharing.
When introducing your paper, please talk for no more than 5-10 minutes to maximise time for discussion. The aim is to remind people of the key points of the paper and highlight any areas on which you would particularly welcome feedback. You are welcome to use powerpoint slides if you wish, but these are by no means essential. Papers are circulated a week in advance via email.
