Samuel Streicher is a medical student at the University of Ottawa in Ontario, Canada. Before beginning his medical degree in 2023, he graduated from the University of Rochester with a Bachelor of Arts in Bioethics, minoring in Biology as well as Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies.
Combining these disciplines, Samuel’s previous work most prominently explores how ableism and sexism affect a patient’s right to refuse treatment. Samuel has also published on other areas of medical ethics, including the use of information from past unethical research, patient capacity assessment, and providers’ disclosure of personal information to patients. Currently, Samuel is working with members of the Canadian Queer Medical Students’ Association (CQMSA) to prepare a centralized document of ethical arguments supporting gender-affirming care at various stages of transition.
Having initially joined the Uehiro Centre for the summer of 2024, Samuel will continue his work with Dr Brian Earp for the summer of 2025, studying psychedelics as moral bioenhancers.
