Professor Christian Gericke is a Consultant Neurologist and Public Health Physician, Clinical Professor of Medicine at the Australian National University, and Honorary Professor of Public Health at the University of Queensland. He chairs the Australian Government Specialist Medical Review Council and serves as Squadron Leader and Aerospace Neurologist in the Royal Australian Air Force.
Previously, he worked as an academic neurologist at Calvary Mater Newcastle, the Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, King’s College Hospital London, and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.
His research interests include bioethics, medical law, health policy, and clinical neurology. He has published in NEJM, JAMA, The Lancet, BMJ, Neurology, and the Journal of Medical Ethics. He currently serves on the editorial boards of Frontiers in Neurology and PLOS One, as well as on the International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) Standards and Best Practice Council.
He has acted as a medical expert for the Supreme Courts in all Australian jurisdictions, Coroners, District and Federal Courts, and the Crown and High Courts of Justice in England, and has experience giving evidence in coronial, criminal and civil proceedings.
During his visit to the Uehiro Oxford Institute, he investigates ethical issues concerning the state endorsement of so-called alternative medicine and the loss-of-chance doctrine in medical litigation.
