Dr Elliot Porter

Elliot is a Career Development Fellow at the Institute. He focuses chiefly on the moral and social philosophy of Madness and Mental Illness. His work explores moral life from a Mad point of view, developing understandings of autonomy, responsibility, and flourishing that take the experiences of mentally ill or Mad people as a starting point. Elliot has wider interests in political philosophy and just war theory, in social epistemology, and in environmental philosophy. He takes particular interest in work aimed at decolonising the philosophy curriculum and offering students a more globally-oriented picture of philosophy. 

Elliot will be teaching Philosophy, Psychiatry, & Mental Health as part of the MSt in Practical Ethics.
