Arata Matsuda is an MA student in Philosophy at Hokkaido University and is currently a Recognised Student at the University of Oxford, having received a scholarship for the Oxford Uehiro-St Cross Visiting Programme. He works mainly in epistemology and metaphilosophy, focusing on two central questions: (i) how philosophical inquiry ought to be practiced, and (ii) what we can gain epistemically by practicing it. At Oxford, he is working on a project titled "Should AI Philosophers Replace Human Philosophers?", which brings these questions to bear on the development of AI systems capable of producing philosophical work. He is supervised by Dr Neil Levy.
His work has appeared in Philosophical Psychology, Erkenntnis, and Oxford Studies in Experimental Philosophy. Before his MA, he received a BA in Law from the University of Tokyo and studied at the Australian National University.
