John A. Vucetich is a Distinguished Professor from Michigan Technological University. Vucetich’s native academic discipline is ecology and that interest has been largely focused on carnivore conservation. Controversies in carnivore conservation invited Vucetich to pursue scholarly interests in environmental ethics, including subjects such as the intrinsic value of nature, conflicts between conservation and animal welfare, the meaning of ecosystem health, and the ethics of restoring biodiversity.
For the past three decades, he has led and co-led research on the wolves of Isle Royale – the longest running study of any predator-prey system in the world. He is the author of more than 200 papers and two books. Vucetich has testified before subcommittees of both houses of the United States Congress on wolf conservation and the Endangered Species Act. He is frequently sought by governments and NGOs around the world for insight on carnivore conservation.
