Rose Flanigan is a student in History at St Cross College. Her research focuses on the history of neurodevelopmental disability, care, and medicine in early America, using archival and medical humanities approaches to examine how disability acquired meaning in everyday life. She explores how relationships of care shaped experiences of illness and what these histories reveal about autonomy, inclusion, and personhood.
Prior to beginning her DPhil, she worked in international development in Nepal and social services in France. These experiences continue to inform her interests in care, access, and the medical humanities. Alongside her research, Rose works to foster interdisciplinary and accessible academic communities at Oxford. She serves as the elected Disabilities Representative at St Cross College and is a founding member of Disabled@Oxford and the TORCH Humans in Humanities Network. Her research is generously supported by the Uehiro Oxford Institute and St Cross College.
