Stella Mosetti is a PhD candidate in Health Science, Technology, and Management, specializing in Bioethics at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa, Italy). Her research investigates how medical innovations, such as artificial organs and digital twins, are reshaping end-of-life care and the conceptual boundaries of the human organism.
Stella’s work focuses on two key areas. She examines the clinical and ethical implications of Ventricular Assist Devices (VADs), specifically regarding pediatric palliative care. In parallel, she conducts an ethical re-evaluation of brain death criterion, exploring how technologies like digital brain twins can address epistemological gaps in treating disorders of consciousness — a project she further developed while visiting the University of Bonn’s Center for Social Ethics in 2025.
Currently, Stella is a Recognised PhD Visiting Student at the Uehiro Oxford Institute, where she is working under the supervision of Professor Dominic Wilkinson to examine the ethical challenges surrounding the use and withdrawal of VADs in pediatric populations.
Stella has presented her work at several international conferences, including the XXV World Congress of Philosophy in Rome, the Conference of the European Society for Philosophy of Medicine and Healthcare (ESPMH), the IEEE International Conference on Biomedical Robotics and Biomechatronics (BioRob). Her recent work is published in peer-reviewed journals such as HEC Forum and BMC Medical Ethics.
